In 1974, LEKI introduced the first trekking pole to the world market - and the LEKI Makalu is born.
meeting took place between Klaus Lenhart and Reinhold Messner, where the crazy idea for an adjustable trekking pole came up.
After much trial and error, the first Makalu was made.
Four years later, Reinhold Messner climbed Mount Everest with no additional oxygen but with the LEKI Makalu.
There’s one requirement for innovation: courage.
Having the courage to try, asserting your ideas and not letting others stop you holds as true today as it did then.
These days, it`s hard to imagine how unusual hiking with poles must have been back in those days, since trekking poles are now a must-have for every trip.

The latest LEKI trekking poles will be available at BAC from the end of April (sorry for the delay :(()
