From Cumulus : 1. Polish goose breeding is sophisticated and relatively humane. We have not found a single article on the internet criticizing Poland in this respect, unlike Hungary (based on internet searches in 2004). 2. Geese bred for the food industry are usually plucked live 2 or 3 times before slaughter. 3. Live plucking is not as harmful as it might seem if done correctly and at moulting times. Correctly timed plucking is far more likely with geese bred for eggs or for breeding stock production, as opposed to those bred for slaughter. 4. Geese bred for their livers are treated abominably.
